Abstract of presentation

IMPROVING SHEET EXTRUSION

John Vlachopoulos and
Takeshi Nakamura (Polydynamics,Inc (Japan),Torideshi,Ibaraki,Japan)

High quality sheet production is a necessary step for successful and problem-free thermoforming. The properties of the extruded resins, screw and die design as well as the operating conditions will affect the  final sheet appearance and properties. Whether virgin resin or regrind is used, it is good idea to characterize the polymer rheologically. Beyond the standard Melt Index, high load Melt Index, viscosity as a function of shear rate, as well as the dynamic modulus of elasticity can provide significant insight into material behavior.
