Biography
Ken Darby has been involved in Thermoforming since 1958, initially as a development engineer with ICI working with both thick and thin gauge materials in a diverse range of applications including building, automotive and packaging.
Since then he has been actively engaged in the introduction of polypropylene films to packaging and later with the development of co-extruded sheet in the bathroom and sanitary ware markets.
As Operations Director of the Thompson Plastics group, Ken was instrumental in the use of high performance sheet materials and composites in the vehicle and agricultural sector.
More recently he spearheaded Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental initiatives.
Educated in both Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering, Ken has served on the European Thermoforming Division board of the SPE for a number of years.

Go Green to Save Money
The industrial world in particular accepts the growing significance of good environmental practice, indeed major customers of thermoforming companies are increasingly making environmental certification a “must have” for their suppliers.
This short presentation highlights the main environmental parameters in thermoforming and shows how improved awareness and simple good practice can improve performance and save money.
